About the CEO who was hacked; the hackers sent him a phishing link, he clicked on it and his account was hijacked. The hackers started sending the employees and the rest of the contacts phishing links in attempt to exhort money from them. One of the employees saw the phishing link and thought it was from her boss and boom, she clicked on the link but the details seemed unfamiliar. She called the boss to confirm if he was the one who had sent the link and he said his WhatsApp account was hacked.
They hijacked the girls Whatsapp account, email accounts and contacts. What is even more horrible is that they extracted her contacts, and deleted the contacts from her phone and she was left with an empty tin of a phone.
She was in that level now. We had to reset the phone because the damage was not just on WhatsApp but all the accounts in the phone, the next step was to secure the other accounts.
Recovering a hacked WhatsApp account
- Uninstall the Whatsapp Account from your device. Go to your home screen or app drawer, long press the Whatsapp app, a small menu will pop up, and click uninstall. Alternatively, go to settings, apps and then scroll to WhatsApp; just below the details of the app which include notifications, permissions etc, you will see uninstall and then you will be able to uninstall
- The next thing to do is go to your app store just as playstore, Apple store and reinstall the WhatsApp again the same way you installed it in the first place. If you don’t know how to install WhatsApp, search for WhatsApp on your app store and click install
